If there is one question I get asked constantly by brides, it’s “Should we do a first look?” Here’s the thing. There are going to be pros and cons to every decision you make during your wedding day, at the end of the day it’s what you envision though that’s most important. I get couples who ask me all the time whether I think they should do a first look and whether or not it’s “easier” for me and other vendors. There are a lot of things that would make a “wedding day easier” for me. But that’s not what it’s about. What I ask these couples instead is “how do you see your wedding day kicking off? do you feel like seeing each other before you walk down the aisle will help with nerves or are you just concerned with my timeline?”.
Sometimes, a first look is required, not because of me, but because a couple does not want to miss cocktail hour, so post-ceremony photos are not achievable. This is the only time I will STRONGLY STRONGLY suggest a first look on your wedding day. But other than that, your first look should be because you want to. Not to make the day easier for your vendors. We are here to capture and document your day and make it as special as possible. Not make crucial decisions for you, because we never want you to regret it one way or another. I tell my couples that if they want to do a first look, great, we’ll make it happen. If they don’t want to do a first look? Great! Well make it happen with out it. It’s our job as the photographers to document your wedding day the way YOU want it to go. Don’t worry about what’s easiest for us.
We want you to be happiest you can be on your big day! All my wedding packages come with timeline assistance planning, too. So we will jump on a call before wedding day comes and be able to iron out the nitty gritty details and create a timeline that works. I also highly suggest hiring a wedding coordinator for the day because they will be your best advocate (and my best friend LOL). If you need recommendations for coordinators or any other vendor please don’t hesitate to reach out!
